DIGITAL ART GALLERY
OFFICIAL RULES
1. HOW TO ENTER: Contest starts at 8:00a.m. PST on September 18, 2008, and ends at 11:59p.m. PST on October 31, 2008 (“Contest Period”). All artwork must be submitted by 11:59p.m. PST on October 31, 2008.
2. TO ENTER, you must be 18 years or older at time of entry and a legal resident of the 50 United States, including the District of Columbia. To enter, complete the Submission Form at http://www.mediafire.com/macworld, and pay the entry fee of twenty dollars ($20), if applicable. (There will be no entry fee for legal residents of Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, and Vermont.) Once the Submission Form has been completed, you will receive a confirmation e-mail which will include instructions for submission of your artwork. If you fail to submit your artwork, the entry fee will not be refunded.
REQUIREMENTS: Entries must be: (i) low-resolution (72 dpi) files and less than 1 MB per image uncompressed; and (ii) formatted in JPEG flattened files and no larger than 800 x 600 pixels. No artist names or numbers may be included in title or file names.
CONTEST CATEGORIES: Contest entries must fall within either of the two designated contest categories, Student or Professional/Hobbyist.
LIMIT: A maximum of three (3) digital art images per person. Sponsor is not responsible for entries that are late, lost, misplaced, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, inaccurate, garbled, illegible, or are lost for any reason, including paper transfer, human, or other error. Artist retains all rights to his or her artwork.
3. ELIGIBILITY: Employees of IDG World Expo Corp. and its parent company, subsidiaries, divisions, and members of their immediate fa.m.ilies (spouse, children, parents, and siblings) or households (whether or not related) are not eligible.
4. JUDGING: Judges are chosen for their expertise and knowledge or digital art and graphics. A total of thirty (30) images will be chosen. Images will be ranked based upon numerical ranking in each of the following categories: (i) image composition (50%); and (ii) originality and expressiveness (50%). In the unlikely event of a tie, the selected artwork will be determined on the basis of its rank in the originality and expressiveness category.
5. PRIZE: Thirty (30) Expo Only Passes to Macworld Conference & Expo 2009. Each artist chosen to have his or her artwork displayed in the Digital Art Gallery will receive one (1) free Expo Only Pass to Macworld Conference & Expo 2009, which is scheduled to be held January 5-9, 2009, approximate retail value fifty dollars ($50). Taxes on the prize and any and all expenses of acceptance, redemption, and/or travel to redeem the prize are artist’s responsibility. Prizes cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion or offer. No prize transfers or cash or other substitutions, except that Sponsor may substitute a prize, for one of comparable or greater value in the event advertised prize is unavailable. Winning artists will have their printed artwork returned to them around February 9, 2009. Winning images will be displayed for at least one year in an on-line digital art gallery at the Macworld Conference & Expo website.
6. ENTRY DETAILS: Digital images must be original artwork created on a Mac computer. For artwork with photographs or images of a person, the subject’s permission to use his or her likeness must be submitted with the artwork. Images may not be offensive, as determined by the judging panel or Sponsor in its sole discretion. Entries not complying with the Official Rules will be subject to disqualification. Artist hereby grants a free license to Sponsor to (i) enlarge, frame, and display the artwork, if chosen, as part of the Digital Art Gallery exhibition and (ii) reproduce or distribute the artwork for Digital Art Gallery related promotional purposes only and with artist credit included. By submitting artwork, artist warrants that all artwork is original and is not based upon or derived from a copyrighted work. Artist further warrants that he or she owns or has obtained all rights necessary for lawful use of the digital image, including any person’s likeness it includes, and that the image has not been and will not be submitted for any judging in any other competition. No motion graphics or use of “stills” from any motion graphics in submitted images will be accepted.
7. GENERAL: Void where prohibited and subject to all laws. By entering this Contest, artists agree to these Official Rules and the Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding with respect to all Contest matters. These Official Rules will be available at http://www.macworldexpo.com/gallery. Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any individual found to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest, or to be acting in any manner it deems to be unsportsmanlike or in violation of the Official Rules. Any promotion materials including, without limitation, the offer or these Official Rules, which contain production, printing, or typographical errors, or are obtained outside authorized, legitimate channels are void; and Sponsor’s liability, if any, is limited to the replacement of such materials. Recipients of such materials release Sponsor, its parent, affiliated, and subsidiary companies, the judging panel and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from any and all losses, claims, or damages that may result there from.
8. ARTIST NOTIFICATION: The list of artists whose artwork will be displayed in the Digital Art Gallery at Macworld Conference & Expo 2009 will be announced around November 25, 2008, to the chosen artists via e-mail to the e-mail address provided on the Submission Form. Chosen artists will need to supply a HIGH RESOLUTION image of their winning entry (at least 300 dpi) for printing of the image, to be placed in the Digital Art Gallery, to “macworld<at>streetwisepr.com” no later than December 5, 2008.
9. RELEASES: As a condition of entry into the Contest, artists agree to release and hold IDG World Expo Corp., and its parents, subsidiaries, divisions, affiliates, suppliers, printers, and advertising or promotional agencies harmless from and against all liability, claims, damages, costs, or losses to person including injury or death, property, or reputation which may be sustained in connection with submitting artwork or participating in any aspect of the Contest, the receipt, ownership, or use or misuse of the prize awarded, or while preparing for, participating in, and/or traveling to any prize-related activity. The winner shall bear all risk of loss or damage to their prize after it has been delivered. Sponsor makes no representations or warranties of any kind concerning the appearance, safety, or performance of the prize. Selected artists grant to Sponsor (except where prohibited by law) the unrestricted right to print, publish, broadcast, and use worldwide in any media now known or hereinafter known the winner’s name, state of residence, voice, statement, picture, or other likeness, without additional compensation or right of review or approval for public relations, and promotional purposes as may be determined by Sponsor.
10. ARBITRATION/CHOICE OF LAW: Except where prohibited, participants agree that any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest shall be resolved exclusively by arbitration pursuant to the Rules of the American Arbitration Association then effective, and any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred by participant relating to this Contest, but in no event attorneys’ fees, punitive, incidental, consequential, or other damages. All issues and question concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of participants and Sponsor and/or Sponsor’s agencies in connection with the Contest shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard for conflicts of law doctrine, and all proceedings shall take place in Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
11. LIST OF SELECTED ARTISTS: For the name of the artists selected to display their artwork, visit the Digital Art Gallery section of the Macworld Conference & Expo website at http://www.macworldexpo.com/gallery. The list of selected artists will be available around November 25, 2008.
