  • SB: Photoshop

It should be pointed out that the word symposium comes from the ancient Greek, for Drinking Party. No kidding. So even though we won't be drinking, we will try our best to keep this gathering informal. By the end, we'll be drunk with ideas about Photoshop.

Photoshop has been the beginning, middle and endpoint for designers and photographers since those pre-flood days of the early nineties. It still is. But now it seems the power and facility of the app has bled through to the regular user, and not just them, but also the specialized user. Witness the breakup of CS3's versions of the app, pointed and marketed directly to web, print, and video. Those of us who have been using it since version 1.2 have that odd sense of pride in watching something grow up in front of our eyes, or screens, as it were. And even with all the enhanced doohickeys and interface and output options, it still is, after all, Photoshop.

And Photoshop is something we know pretty well. And there are things beyond, or maybe just underneath all the glamor that you might find useful. Things hidden in plain sight.

We present this Symposium in four parts. Four marathonic, 90 minute sessions. The first session will approach image rescue controls. When we get an image that isn't necessarily in the best state, how do we make it great?

Part 2 will sympose (a word?) some Manipulation and image element techniques.

Part 3 will discuss the newly enhanced Smart Layers and Smart Objects in CS3.

Part 4 will be a discussion on collaboration, and workflow, integrating work in Photoshop with other apps, and, with a little help from Leopard, with other users.

All in all, it will be a fun, and informative day.

Sessions for this Track are not available at this time.
