Framingham, MA––Macworld 2010 will host the largest face-to-face viewing of applications for Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch devices, IDG World Expo, owner of Macworld 2010, announced today. “The iPhone/iPod Touch app marketplace has exploded over the past 12 months, presenting developers with both opportunities and marketing challenges, and presenting users with a plethora of choice but a dearth of product information. For consumers who want to know what to buy, and developers who want to make their mark, Macworld 2010 is the place to be,” said Paul Kent, vice president and general manager for Macworld 2010. “With the proliferation of available apps, competition for mindshare and customers has become more intense, so we are excited to have added the Mobile Application Showcase to Macworld 2010 as the premier forum for app developers to engage with customers, press, other developers and potential investors. It's also the best place on the planet for consumers to get to test out apps and meet their creators.”

About BT
From an early age, BT, born Brian Transeau, demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for playing and understanding classical music. He was heavily influenced by avant-garde and romantic composers such as Stravinsky, Bartok, Debussy and Rachmaninov. His biggest influences, however, were from everyday sounds that most would take for granted, from noticing the meter of the grandfather clock in the foyer to the micro-rhythms of crickets and cicadas to the ambience of passing trains at night.
Now 15 years into his illustrious career, BT is a platinum-selling artist, visionary producer, film composer and technologist. He is trusted by superstars such as Sting, Brtiney Spears, Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Madonna, Seal and Peter Gabriel to producer modernist and memorable hits with a bleeding-edge electronic flair. He has composed unforgettable scores for films including The Fast and the Furious, Go, Stealth and Oscar-award winning Monster. BT is the earliest of early adopters and widely credited as a maven of modern sound techniques.

DEMO and Macworld Magazine Collaborate to Spotlight the Best New Products for the Apple Platform at Macworld 2010
Framingham, MA––Macworld 2010, in collaboration with DEMO and Macworld, is launching a ground-breaking new program that will give attendees an exclusive first look at the best new products for the Apple market at “Macworld DEMO: Best of Show,” IDG World Expo, owner of Macworld 2010, announced today. DEMO, the launch pad event for emerging technologies, and Macworld, the preeminent news and information source for Mac professionals and enthusiasts, will spotlight the most promising technologies to hit the Apple products market exclusively at Macworld 2010.
This new award program will give six selected companies an unparalleled opportunity to spotlight their products during a special feature presentation hosted by industry luminary Matt Marshall, editor and CEO of Venture Beat and executive producer of DEMO. Each of the six selected companies will give a six-minute demonstration of their product at the Macworld DEMO: Best of Show Feature Presentation, scheduled for Thursday, February 11, 2010, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. The deadline for Macworld DEMO: Best of Show submissions is January 15, 2010.
“DEMO has long served as the premier platform for companies––from well-known players to worthy start ups––to launch their products and garner recognition for their innovations,” said Matt Marshall, executive producer of DEMO. “The Apple products market is exploding with innovation and Macworld DEMO: Best of Show is a ground-breaking new endeavor that brings together the DEMO team, skilled in finding the best of what’s next; the experts at Macworld, who have unmatched insight into the Mac products platform; and Macworld 2010, the largest gathering of Apple-related product users. Together, we are committed to bringing to the stage and to the Apple products community the best new products for 2010, products that we believe will change the way people work, play and create.”
Traditionally, the Macworld Best of Show awards are presented by Macworld to the best products debuting at Macworld Expo––winners are presented during a live, on-stage presentation. Macworld will again present its Best of Show awards to the best products, innovations and upgrades at Macworld 2010 as selected by their editors. The Best of Show winners will be selected first and from those winners, the DEMO selections will be made. Best of Show winners will be presented on the Macworld 2010 Main Stage, centrally located on the expo floor, where each winning company will be given a 10-minute speaking slot to talk about and demo its product.
“Macworld 2010 is all about great products and innovations happening in the Apple products marketplace and the Best of Show awards have, through the years, helped put the spotlight on the best of the new products,” said Jason Snell, editorial director of Macworld. “Macworld DEMO: Best of Show takes the program to the next level, providing a tremendous opportunity for exhibitors to gain worldwide acclaim for their new-to-market offerings. Macworld is excited to be part of this new show feature and looks forward to learning more about all the incredible products debuting for the Mac platform in 2010.”

In fact, five months before the 2010 event, the Macworld conference programming is completed with all speaker slots filled and content set. In addition, IDG World Expo announced that there are more than 28,000 attendees pre-registered for the February event, which is more than two-thirds of the total number of attendees for a typical Macworld show.
“We are extremely pleased by the tremendous response to and support for Macworld 2010 that we are seeing from the Apple products user community months before the show takes place,” said Paul Kent, Macworld 2010 General Manager and Vice President at IDG World Expo, producer of the event. “2010 truly represents the start of a new era for this event. Macworld 2010 is completely focused on the products and innovations happening in the community, and thanks to the early support of our exhibitors, faculty and attendees, we know that 2010 will be a great year and a successful rebirth for the show. We’d like to thank each and every person who is planning to join us for learning, networking, shopping and fun in 2010.”
The Macworld 2010 conference program, expected to attract several thousand Apple product users from around the world, will feature six unique programs: MacIT® Conference, Users Conference, MacLabs, Market Symposiums, Power Tools and Creative Safari. All speaker slots for these conference tracks have been filled with leading experts delivering training on the newest and most relevant topics, such as Snow Leopard and Final Cut Pro. Keeping with Macworld’s tradition of providing the most up-to-date training, there are a handful of slots being left open until closer to the event in order to address last-minute, late-breaking topics of interest.
Featured content at Macworld 2010 includes a dedicated, full-day of hands-on training around the iWork suite and an expanded Users Conference that targets a wider base of vertical segments. In addition to creative professionals, photographers, educators, small business professionals and general Mac users, musicians and videographers now have dedicated sessions to help build their skill set.
Sessions will be taught by a stellar faculty of Mac visionaries and leaders that includes: Rich Harrington, a practiced expert in motion graphic design and digital video and internationally published author of books in the Apple Training Series; Don McAllister, podcasting pioneer and host and producer of ScreenCastsONLINE, a weekly show delivering video tutorials on Apple Mac software to a global audience; and Bruce Nazarian, “The DVD Guy” and CEO of Digital Media Consulting Group.
“As a long-time Macworld conference attendee and first-time guest speaker, I am honored to be part of this year’s Macworld faculty and for the opportunity to share my experience and know-how with those hungry to learn about Mac productivity, ScreenCasting and Snow Leopard,” said Don McAllister, host and producer of ScreenCastsONLINE. “Macworld has always offered attendees unparalleled education and training on the hottest, most timely and, arguably, most important topics of the day. Those who participate can be sure that they will leave with the skills and knowledge needed to make the most of their investments and unlock the full potential of the products they use. I look forward to being part of this exciting event that truly brings the Mac platform to life.”

Back to TopSnow Leopard Conference Sessions Announced for Macworld 20108/31/2009
Framingham, MA––Macworld 2010 will feature two full days of technical conference content dedicated to Apple’s newest operating system, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, IDG World Expo, owner of Macworld 2010, announced today. Macworld 2010, taking place February 9 - 13, 2010, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, is the world’s premier event singularly focused on the Apple products platform.
Apple released Snow Leopard on Friday, August 28, and in anticipation of the release, IDG World Expo has built a comprehensive program of conference content and training opportunities led by world-class faculty and aimed at helping new and experienced users unlock the full potential of Snow Leopard.
“When Apple releases a new OS, Macworld is the first and best place to learn how to use and maximize its capabilities,” said Paul Kent, Macworld general manager and vice president at IDG World Expo. “Macworld provides the community with the education, hands-on training and support needed to get more than they ever thought possible out of these new tools. The Macworld 2010 sessions on Snow Leopard and Final Cut Pro 7 are just the beginning of our cutting-edge conference agenda.”
Snow Leopard Session Highlights Include:
• “Upgrading to Snow Leopard” details the installation process itself and how users can prepare to upgrade, avoid installation problems and proactively troubleshoot.
• “Working with Services in Snow Leopard” focuses on the services that Snow Leopard makes downright convenient to use, including managing the Services menu, adding and removing services, identifying cool things you can do with services and situations where services don't work.
• “Text Magic in Snow Leopard” highlights all the new text magic tools, including bidirectional language support, a revamped user interface for the Keyboard Viewer and Character Palette, on-the-fly text substitutions, and interesting new capabilities in TextEdit.
• Finder Power User Techniques ("Don't Enter Data Twice!") emphasizes how to speed up workflow in the Finder by customizing windows and using Smart folders and Spotlight to quickly find information, as well as how to use tagging to better organize your data.
• “Working Between Multiple Apps” shows users how to better exchange information among the various applications on their Mac, as some of the Apple apps are very well integrated, but the ways in which they can interact is not always obvious to the user.
• “Video with Snow Leopard: Putting QuickTime X to Work” demonstrates how to navigate the new user interface; use the features of the new QuickTime to capture audio and video; prepare media for use with your iPhone, iPod or Apple TV; push video to You Tube and Mobile Me; and use H.264, AAC, streaming and performance technologies to improve your media experience.
• “Taking Accessibility to the Next Level in Snow Leopard” teaches users with disabilities how to increase and enhance their accessibility with new and innovative technologies designed to get the most out of their Mac.
Sessions will be taught by leading technology consultants, educators and practitioners from the Mac marketplace, including: Joe Kissell, senior editor, TidBITS Publishing Inc.; J.F. Brissette, trainer and producer, macProVideo.com and owner, JFB Media Solutions; Nick Floro, CEO, Sealworks Interactive Studios; and Don McAllister, host and producer, ScreenCastsONLINE.
In addition to Snow Leopard specific content, the Macworld 2010 conference boasts numerous sessions focused on educating users on all aspects of the newest version of Final Cut Pro 7, released in March. Session highlights include the following.
• “Introduction to Final Cut Pro” is an introductory-level class taught by Mark Spencer, president of Day Street Productions, that focuses on expanding your skills beyond Final Cut Pro to harness the power of the full Final Cut Studio. Deliver a rich, guided and interactive experience to your viewers with DVD Studio Pro. Discover how to prepare your work for delivery with Compressor. Learn how each of these applications fits into an overall post-production workflow.
• “Final Cut Studio In-depth” is a more advanced class taught by Steve Martin, president of Ripple Training, covering all the core Studio Apps, including Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Color, DVD Studio Pro and Compressor, as well as how they all work together to create the ultimate "post production studio in a box."
The Macworld 2010 conference program will deliver a comprehensive technology agenda covering everything from Mac power user skills, introductory training and creative music, video and design content to small business productivity and education. Additional conference sessions will be announced in the coming weeks.

Back to TopIDG World Expo Announces New Dates for Macworld 20103/30/2009
Framingham, MA – Macworld Expo® 2010 is scheduled to
take place February 9 - 13, 2010, at the Moscone Center in San
Francisco, IDG World Expo announced today. Responding to feedback from
the Mac community of exhibitors, attendees, media and fans of the show,
IDG World Expo is ushering in a new era for the event by shifting the
show dates away from their historical early January timing. The new
dates will give exhibitors and attendees more breathing room between
the busy holiday season and the world’s largest event focused
specifically on Apple products.
“Macworld is the largest
global Mac-centric event of the year, and we are focused on making 2010
the most productive, efficient and content-rich event possible for our
community of exhibitors, attendees and media,” said Mary Dolaher, chief
executive officer of IDG World Expo, the owner of Macworld. “For 25
years, Macworld has been the pre-eminent event focused solely on the
Apple products ecosystem, and with the recent evolution of the show we
have been able to fully engage the Macworld community for input on the
2010 event. As we began the planning process, attendees and exhibitors
made it clear that February in San Francisco was the time and location
that worked best, so we listened. We firmly believe that these new
dates will better meet the needs of everyone participating in Macworld,
and are pleased to have been able this respond to this request from the
community. The journey toward a new era for Macworld has begun and we
are more excited about this ride than ever before.”
In
addition to moving the event to February, Macworld 2010 will further
break from tradition by shifting the expo portion of the event to
include a Saturday. The Expo now is scheduled to take place Thursday,
February 11, through Saturday, February 13. This shift will provide all
attendees, including full-time professionals, with more flexible times
and convenient weekend access to the show floor. The Macworld
conference sessions will take place Tuesday, February 9, through
Saturday, February 13.
“We are definitely going to Macworld
2010,” exclaimed Andrew Taylor, founder and CEO of MacSpeech, Inc.
“Macworld is a time when customers can ask us questions and request
features. Macworld is a time for us to make more people aware of what's
going on with MacSpeech Dictate. At the same time, we can interact with
other developers in the Macintosh community. Macworld is an extremely
efficient use of time for us. It's a great time for the community to
come together, see what everybody else is doing and use that
information to help everybody improve.”
Macworld 2010 will
bring together retailers, Mac enthusiasts, media, exhibitors, and,
unlike other events, consumers for a week of education, professional
development, face-to-face networking and product viewing. Exhibitors
and attendees will gather to see, share, learn and experience the best
and most innovative technologies, tools and toys for the Apple products
ecosystem. Macworld is the only event where exhibitors and developers
have the opportunity to speak directly to an audience that is
interested specifically in their product category and in an environment
where they can grab maximum mindshare in an uncluttered marketplace.
“Moving
Macworld Expo from the awkward post-New Year dates makes tons of
sense,” said Adam Engst, publisher, TidBITS. “Travel and lodging costs
will likely be lower for developers and attendees alike, and developers
won't have to push as hard during the holiday season to finalize code
and prepare booths.”

IDG World Expo also used the Town Hall meeting to announce that registration is now open for the 2010 event and attendees can register for a free exhibits pass by visiting www.macworldexpo.com/2010registration. Next year’s Macworld Conference & Expo is scheduled to take place January 4-8, 2010, at San Francisco’s Moscone Center.
"Macworld has thrived for 25 years due to the strong support of tens of thousands of members of the Mac community worldwide," said Paul Kent, vice president and general manager, Macworld Conference & Expo. “While there is no question that Macworld is going to evolve and change in 2010, we will continue to build great shows that are worth everyone’s time and money. As part of this commitment to the Mac community, we wanted to share our thoughts and ideas for future Macworld events and hear ideas and suggestions from our attendees. We got some incredible feedback and are already at work implementing ideas for 2010.”
The more than 400 Mac faithful in attendance at the Town Hall event, about half of whom said they had been to Macworld ten or more times, participated in a lively and positive dialogue about the future of the event. Members of the Mac industry press also expressed their opinions with regard to the importance of Macworld for the community:
"Macworld Expo is of huge importance to the Mac ecosystem of attendees, vendors, speakers and media,” said Shawn King, Blogger and Podcaster, Your Mac Life. “Never has the cliché ‘the show must go on’ been more apropos.”
"Macworld Expo occupies a key role in the smooth functioning of the Macintosh industry for tens of thousands of individuals, thousands of businesses and hundreds of exhibitors,” said Adam Engst, TidBITS. “Whether or not Apple participates in the future, it's essential that the Macintosh world have a central meeting place for professional networking, support and development."
IDG World Expo also emphasized the value of face-to-face meetings and reiterated that it is fully committed to continuing to support the hundreds of companies and developers that make up the Mac ecosystem.
“The rich ecosystem of attendees, developers, media and many others relies on Macworld in a variety of ways to further their businesses and careers,” said Paul Kent. “We are at the start of a new era, developing an event that will continue to foster business, social networking and professional development for all members of the Mac community. We know that in a few years, we will look back at 2009 as the year that provided us with a terrific opportunity to effect many positive changes at Macworld, and helped us create a great new event that thrived in 2010 and beyond.”
Mac enthusiasts can continue to submit their ideas and suggestions at suggestionbox@macworld2010.com, and attendees can now register for a free exhibits pass by www.macworldexpo.com/registration2010.
